myTomorrows helps patients with unmet medical needs discover and access clinical trials and expanded access programmes. The organisation operates internationally and works with highly sensitive patient and pharmaceutical data. That responsibility comes with strict security and compliance requirements.At the same time, employees work across Europe, India, North America and South America, creating a highly distributed IT environment. For Filippo Mandrini, Information Security Officer at myTomorrows, the challenge was clear: create a security architecture that protects every employee and every connection, regardless of location.
The existing VPN environment was originally designed for engineers who needed access to development and production systems. While functional, it no longer matched the needs of a growing global organisation. Performance issues, limited scalability and increasing security demands made it clear that a different approach was needed.The goal was not simply to replace the VPN. The goal was to establish a modern security framework that would support future growth while improving visibility, control and user experience.

Challenge
For myTomorrows, security cannot come at the expense of productivity. The organisation needed a solution that could secure all users, not just technical teams, while remaining easy to manage across multiple regions and devices.At the same time, compliance requirements continued to grow. GDPR, ISO 27001, HIPAA and SOC 2 all require a high level of control, visibility and accountability. The challenge was finding a solution that could strengthen security without adding unnecessary complexity.
After evaluating multiple vendors, myTomorrows selected Zscaler as the foundation for its Zero Trust strategy. Together with Reliance, the organisation implemented Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) to replace the existing AWS VPN environment, Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) to secure internet traffic for all employees, and continuous monitoring and optimisation of the environment alongside ongoing security reviews and support.According to Filippo, Reliance played an important role throughout the process. "What really stood out was how involved the team was. They challenged our assumptions, guided us through best practices and helped optimise the setup." The collaboration continued well beyond implementation, with regular reviews, proactive monitoring and ongoing support.
