Customer context
CVC DIF is active in private infrastructure investment and works with international teams that operate flexibly and on the move. Employees work from different countries, offices and external locations. In such an environment, IT needs to be secure as well as flexible and scalable.CVC DIF has worked with Reliance as its strategic IT partner for years. The collaboration once started from traditional management and consultancy, but over the years grew into a partnership centred on security, cloud and infrastructure. The move to Zero Trust was driven by hybrid working and changing security requirements. "Our offices were well secured locally," says Twan van Vlerken, Director of IT at CVC DIF. "But people increasingly work outside the office. We have no control over the network there."An annual pentest confirmed that picture. The internal infrastructure was solid, but traditional perimeter security no longer matched daily practice. That created the need for a different approach: thinking less from the network and more from identity, access and continuous verification.

Challenge
For CVC DIF, the challenge was not just better security, but also supporting flexible work without adding complexity for users. At the same time, the organisation had to keep meeting strict compliance and security requirements within the financial sector.CVC DIF also wanted to move away from dependencies on traditional infrastructure, such as Citrix environments, physical network solutions, VPN constructions and on premises data centre management. The new environment had to be more secure, more flexible and easier to manage.
Together with Reliance (formerly IT-Concern), CVC DIF chose a Zero Trust approach with Zscaler as the foundation for further cloud migration and modern security. Implementation started with a proof of concept and was then rolled out in phases.Reliance supported the organisation on Zscaler Private Access (ZPA), secure access without a traditional VPN, DLP integrations, visibility into data traffic and user behaviour, IP anchoring for compliance purposes, and guidance through the broader cloud transition. Thanks to that approach, CVC DIF was able to phase out several traditional solutions, including Citrix and parts of its on premises data centre. "Our entire environment is now cloud only," says Twan.

Employees can work more safely and flexibly, without complicated VPN setups or location based limits. It also created room to further simplify the infrastructure and continue developing the cloud strategy.
